About Diana Rochelle

I am Diana Rochelle. 26 years of age and on the road to a better me. Like others, my journey through life has been up and down - filled with hurt and confusion. Instead of putting up a facade, I choose to walk in my truth. I am far from perfect and have made my share of mistakes. So, I try to encourage others through my experiences and show that I am daily living, learning, and growing just like everyone else!

Wash / Braid /Crochet -TIPS FOR CROCHET WEAVE

The tips below are what I have found to make the process a lot smoother and easier:

STRETCHED HAIR – It is best to start on fresh hair but Stretched Hair! If you are 4c or deal with extremely thick hair, then this may help dealing with parting and detangling for braid pattern.

BRAID HAIR WITH WATER / COCONUT OIL – I do not like to make hair any more dirty than I have to, so I do not use a lot of products. I only used coconut oil and water to braid my hair. Every so often I will apply oil onto my scalp for the duration of this style.

CROCHET ON DRY BRAIDS – Usually I would jump right into crocheting after I do my braid pattern. However, I think having a fully dry head will allow for a better crochet experience.

MARLEY HAIR TO BE CURLED AND FULLY SET/DRY – I had curled the marley hair a day before crocheting. I found that the curls that had time to fully set and dry are lasting better and tighter than those that I had to do the same day. I did not have enough hair and had to rod and dip in water the same day that I was crocheting. Placing in my head slightly wet, my curls did not have time to fully set before I began shaping and manipulating; causing a lot to lose the tightness and curl that I desired. **I will be redo those because I AM A BIT OF A PERFECTIONIST! haha -_-

Crochet Weave!

Okay…so I think I finally have the crochet weave concept down! It’s only been close to 4 years of doing this style! -_-  However, I have finally found the braid pattern and curl pattern techniques that made it a success!crochet steps

[ 1-3 ] Braid pattern was simple: about 12 medium sized braids in the front – then joining 2 to make about 6 large braids going down. **I did make a perimeter, in case I wanted a ponytail (I can explain in further detail in another blog post, if need be). I connected all braided horizontally until left with one plat. Using marley hair (prefer sew-in thread) I placed the plat beside of the braid and crocheted the plat in place, knotting 3 or so times. I used color hair so that I can tell where it is done (for the take down process).

[ 4 ] All you will need to crochet! I did not show the steps to curl the marley hair, but I used rods and hot water to achieve the curl. I found this technique on YouTube, in which you loop and twist around the roller to get a very tight curl. Usually I just loop around roller but there is a HUGE difference in this technique (I can explain in further detail in another blog post, if need be).

[ 5 ] Finished look! Cut for desired shape!

How To Make A Short & Thin Scarf Look Full!

I hated shorter/thinner scarves until NOW! Now, I am able to make them look just as full as my other scarves. Also, if you are like me, then you hate the scarves with the fringed on the ends – I like to make all my scarves look like the infinity scarf….Here’s how!

Protective Style Game is Too Strong! *hehe*

HELLLO My Natural Divas!

So, I just realized that I have been wearing protective styles for about 6 weeks consistently! I miss my hair…but the ease of not manipulating & struggling with my hair has been AMAZING!

I have basically worn mostly protective styles all year so far. I have had my hair out on and off, but I just found it to be a lifesaver to keep in protective styles.

Ever since I saw Crochet Braids/Weave styles on YouTube, I fell in love. I have been doing them since the beginning of my transition phase and it is still one of my favorites.

First I did the side braid and curl Crochet look! I love this look, but eventually wanted to do my full head:

So I did my Crochet weave!

Each time I do it, I promise I find a new and better technique!
