The tips below are what I have found to make the process a lot smoother and easier:
STRETCHED HAIR – It is best to start on fresh hair but Stretched Hair! If you are 4c or deal with extremely thick hair, then this may help dealing with parting and detangling for braid pattern.
BRAID HAIR WITH WATER / COCONUT OIL – I do not like to make hair any more dirty than I have to, so I do not use a lot of products. I only used coconut oil and water to braid my hair. Every so often I will apply oil onto my scalp for the duration of this style.
CROCHET ON DRY BRAIDS – Usually I would jump right into crocheting after I do my braid pattern. However, I think having a fully dry head will allow for a better crochet experience.
MARLEY HAIR TO BE CURLED AND FULLY SET/DRY – I had curled the marley hair a day before crocheting. I found that the curls that had time to fully set and dry are lasting better and tighter than those that I had to do the same day. I did not have enough hair and had to rod and dip in water the same day that I was crocheting. Placing in my head slightly wet, my curls did not have time to fully set before I began shaping and manipulating; causing a lot to lose the tightness and curl that I desired. **I will be redo those because I AM A BIT OF A PERFECTIONIST! haha -_-
